World Hepatitis Day 2025
“Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down”
What is Hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by viral infections (hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E). Chronic hepatitis B and C can lead to severe liver disease, liver cancer, and death if left untreated.
Why This Day Matters
- Over 300 million people live with chronic hepatitis B or C.
- 1.3 million people died from hepatitis-related causes in 2022.
- Hepatitis is preventable, treatable, and in the case of hepatitis C, curable.

What You Can Do as a Patient
- Get tested: Especially if you were born before 1991 or have risk factors.
- Ask about vaccination: Hepatitis B vaccination is safe and effective.
- Seek treatment: Hepatitis C is curable with modern antiviral medications.
- Talk to your doctor: Early detection can prevent serious liver damage.
- Break the stigma: Share your story or support others to raise awareness.
